ManyWho

Workflow Application Building

Background

ManyWho is an application builder used by consultants to create workflow-driven applications. The challenge was balancing tool power with usability in a complex authoring environment.

Concept Development

I focused on two key innovations. First, I designed a pause and resume pattern that allowed users to step out of a workflow to complete missing tasks, then return without losing context. This was achieved through small, self-contained mini-experiences embedded within the larger system.

Second, I redesigned rule creation with a smart authoring panel that dynamically guided users through valid inputs, reducing cognitive load while preserving flexibility.

I also improved the landing experience, system feedback, and overall visual design to support clarity in dense interfaces.

Outcomes

ManyWho was acquired by Dell. Today, it continues to be used by consultants to build and manage workflow-based applications.

One of the challenges of the project was to find a simple way for people to create a rule. A rule would trigger certain actions. The solution was to create a smart authoring panel that would dim on/off elements that can be dropped at the specific step of the rule create flow.
