Bird's Wisdom & Rabbit's Wit
Numyum.com | Illustrated Children's Book
Background
After reading hundreds of children's books to my son, I decided to create one of my own. I was looking for stories that reflected my cultural background and couldn't find anything that felt both familiar and visually engaging.
Concept & Inspiration
The book adapts two wisdom tales from Rumi using simple narration and expressive illustration. The stories explore how ingenuity can overcome size and strength, and how true wisdom comes from applying ideas-not just understanding them.
Bird's Wisdom examines the limits of knowledge without action, while Rabbit's Wit reimagines The Lion and the Beasts as a village of rabbits threatened by a fantastic creature, saved through clever thinking rather than force.
Outcome
The result is a 98-page, bilingual (English and Arabic) illustrated book, 8.5" x 8.5". While it didn't fit the traditional children's publishing formula, the book is held in several libraries across the San Francisco Bay Area.
