Cabins on a Hill
Architecture Concept Design
Background & Inspiration
A conceptual volumetric studio project to design two cabins on a hillside within strict indoor square-footage and height limits.
Concept Development & Outcome
I designed two closely related cabins and explored the impact of placing the staircase indoors versus outdoors. I used bold red stairs to drive the character of the cabin. Much of the work focused on material exploration—painting foam board to suggest hardwood floors, windows, and plaster walls, and using painted balsa wood to construct terraced floors. While the materials warped and bent, the process was a useful experiment in how color and texture can help imagine spatial experience.
